Tropical Travel

Just as it’s getting colder in Colorado there’s a built in tropical getaway for me this wedding season!  Brandy and Drew’s wedding was this past Friday here in lovely Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and it was such an honor to both attend and photograph it. Next stop, Florida for Tory and Kevin’s big day on Saturday!  Looking forward to sharing my favorites from these two weddings as well as from Sarah and Landon’s Colorado Springs celebration in the coming weeks :)

Happy holidays!

Denver Maternity | Sarah & Ryan

Pregnancy is special no matter what, as I’m learning while being pregnant – it’s a delicate state and such a precious thing. Preparing to bring another person into this world isn’t easy work – it’s so amazing what our bodies can do! Sarah and Ryan are a special couple I’ve grown to care for this year and they are on the path to parenthood at the same time as Gary and me. It seems there’s been an explosion of pregnancies among my girl friends in the wedding industry! Sarah is the owner of Details by Sarah Elizabeth, an event design company. She and Ryan relocated to Denver from Nashville earlier this year and have since started on the path to a family.

Like us, these two are expecting a little boy. He’s definitely going to be a handsome little one :) I hadn’t actually met Sarah and Ryan until this shoot, and I so enjoyed our time together. I feel as though we’ve spent much more time together since I’ve been following their story for the past couple of months.
At the same appointment where they found out they were having a little boy they were told the results of a breast biopsy that Sarah had had done prior – she has breast cancer. Sarah is 25 like me, pregnant (like me) and was given this news. With my mom having gone through breast cancer this year and the similarities between Sarah and I and just the utter unfairness of the situation, they’ve been close to my heart as they’ve moved through the treatments.
This guy here, Ryan? He’s the perfect match for Sarah and so very supportive and wonderful for her. I’m so thankful he’s in her life and know they will make an amazing team as parents of their precious little boy. Sarah has undergone chemo already and just yesterday had a double mastectomy. Their little boy is thriving, growing right on track and they may even get to meet him in the next couple of days as Sarah is showing signs of early labor.Beautiful before, even more so now and about to be a mom!
Adorable little baby TOMS :) Such sweetness. I am so honored to have been able to capture this time for them. Little man!Holding onto faith and fighting hard. This precious family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Sarah and Ryan, thank you so much for having me into your lives and letting me document such a special time.

So much love to you both,

Wow- these are amazing! I know that taking the time to do this ‘normal’ thing and for them to relax and feel the joy of this time in her pregnancy was so so precious to them. It’s so great to see these beautiful photos of my sweet friends. (Not going to lie I totally cried. Miss them so!) You did a wonderful job. xo

Rocky Mountain National Park Engagement | Brandy & Drew

Meet my friends Brandy and Drew :) These two are getting married next month in the Dominican Republic and Gary and I can’t wait to capture their day and have a little babymoon all in one! Southerners brought to Colorado Springs by Drew’s job in the Air Force, Brandy and Drew are both engineers who were put together by matchmaker friends at an Alabama football game close to three years ago.

There were SO many elk throughout the park. That’s Long’s Peak in the background with an elevation of 14,259 feet, over 100 feet taller than Pikes Peak here in Colorado Springs and the only “fourteener” in Rocky Mountain National Park.

I may or may not have been standing in this creek to shoot these two on their precarious perch :)

Brandy is both a gold and silver wearer so the surprise stone on her engagement ring being circled in gold fits her perfectly.

Counting down the days to a very different scene to come in the Caribbean when these two say “I do”!

A Rustic Garden Tennessee Wedding | Katie & Jared

Gary and I were blessed to be part of Katie & Jared’s wedding celebration in Tennessee on the first day of Autumn just a couple of weeks ago. Katie’s family has been part of our lives for 10+ years and her dad, Ken, married Gary and me in 2008 – so it was extra special to be able to both be there for this wedding and even more so to capture all the little moments and memories that ensued:

Jared surprised Katie with this gorgeous ring whose center stone was his grandmother’s.

Katie’s hair and makeup was done at Richard & Co. Salon in Collierville.

I’m so glad they chose to have a reveal moment before the ceremony, Gary did a fabulous job capturing his view of the first look.

Katie said afterward that seeing Jared beforehand really helped to ease her nerves :)

The lovely florals for the day were done by Kathie Ray and she and Mendy Breeden coordinated.

What a group of ushers! :) The arch you see at the beginning of the aisle was built by the father of the bride and a friend. Being that we had a garden themed wedding ourselves I love it all the more.

To those who don’t know the family it would seem to be the same adorable toddler in the two photos below – they are actually Katie’s twin nephews and were the ring bearers :)

A family tradition, the father of the bride, Ken, has worn these Mickey suspenders at the weddings of each of his children.

Gary was at the back of the aisle capturing the last moments before the big walk while I was at the front.

A friend of the family and ours, Terry Reeves, officiated the ceremony. Russ Turman was the videographer.

They made us all laugh and cry with vows they wrote themselves that turned out to be very similar.

Prior to meeting each other Katie and Jared had both arrived at a place where they were okay with being single, not putting pressure on themselves to find “the one”.  A casual connection on a dating website changed both their minds and the course of their lives. It was incredibly touching to hear them say how much they meant to each other as part of their vows and even promise to work on elements of their relationship that they already realize will require compromise and communication.

Gary and I headed outdoors with them right after the ceremony to take advantage of the gorgeous light that awaited us.

The cake was designed and created by Jared’s mother.

The DJ for the night was Brad from Disc Jockeys Etc.

Not your average request during a reception, but hilarious and awesome none the less! Bridesmaids, anyone? :)

Katie and Jared left the reception in a 1927 Chevy.

Katie and Jared and families: it was so wonderful to be part of this event with you. Thank you for having us and for welcoming us in as extended family for the weekend. It makes my heart happy to know how right you two are for each other and to have been able to get to know Jared’s family a bit and reconnect with Katie and hers.

Best wishes for a lifetime of happiness,
